Installing Singular 3-1-1 on a Microsoft Windows Platform

There are different ways to install Singular on a Microsoft Windows platform. Here is a complete list with detailed instructions. Alternatively, you may simply follow our decision guide to obtain a working installation which best suits your needs.

Decision guide

If the answer to at least one of the following questions is "yes", you should click on "Netinstall", otherwise use "Package for the Web":

  • Do you want to use further Cygwin software, such as TeTex, ssh, xfig, a.o.?
  • Do you have an existing Cygwin installation?
  • Do you only have a slow connection to the domain uni-kl.de?

Choose installation mode: Netinstall or Package for the Web

Sources of Cygwin packages and Singular

You can download the sources of all Cygwin packages, which will be installed by the setup routine, including Singular at ftp.uni-kl.de or from any other Cygwin mirror using "Cygwin setup". In case you had already installed Singular using one of the earlier "Package for the Web" distributions, there should be a link to "Cygwin setup" in your Windows Start menu.

Further Singular related material can be found at the ftp server of the mathematics department.

All versions of Singular and all setup routines are powered by Cygwin and their setup program. We wish to thank the developers of setup.exe and the maintainers of the Cygwin packages.
