7       MACINTOSH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SINGULAR
8       =================================================
9To install Singular on a Macintosh (PPC or 68k), you need the following two
10archives:
11
12Singular-<x-y-z>-share.sea.hqx
13   -- contains architecture independent data like documentation and libraries
14Singular-<x-y-z>-<target>-MPW.sea.hqx
15   -- contains architecture dependent executables, like the Singular program
16
17You can obtain these files from
18        ftp://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/pub/Math/Singular/
19
20Furthermore, you need MacOS version >= 7.5 with an installed MPW shell
21E.T.O. >= 21 (see below for instructions on how to get MPW).

24LICENSING
25=========
26Please see the file COPYING contained in the distribution for license
27information on Singular. In particular, notice that we only grant you
28permission to use Singular if you have registered yourself as a
29Singular user by sending email to <singular@mathematik.uni-kl.de>
30with the subject line (or, mail body) `register'.
31
32
33TO INSTALL SINGULAR
34===================
351.) Expand the two downloaded files using a standard Expander (like Compact
36    Pro or StuffIt) to obtain the corresponding self-extracting `.sea'
37    files.
38
392.) Click on the two self-extracting `.sea' files. This
40    will create a new (or, update an existing) folder named "Singular"
41    which contains the Singular program in the subfolder "<x-y-z>".
42    Multiple versions of Singular can peaceably coexist under the same
43    root folder.
44
453.) Clicking on the Singular icon in the desktop, starts up the MPW shell
46    (the working direktory of the MPW shell is then the directory of the
47    executable). To start Singular, you need to type in 'Singular' in
48    the MPW worksheet.
49    If you start the MPW shell manually, you must set the working
50    direktory to the directory of the Singular program.
51
52After unpacking, you will have a directory structure like:
53  ./Singular/<x-y-z>/Singular  Singular executable
54  ./Singular/<x-y-z>/libparse  parser for Singular libraries
55  ./Singular/LIB/<x-y-z>/      Singular libraries
56  ./Singular/LIB/gftables/     Singular gftables
57  ./Singular/doc/<x-y-z>/      documentation (ps, dvi, info)
58  ./Singular/html/<x-y-z>/     documentation (html)
59  ./Singular/README            general information on Singular
60  ./Singular/COPYING           licence information
61  ./Singular/INSTALL           this file
62For the executable to work, the directory layout must look like this.
63In particular, you should not move or copy the Singular executables to
64another place.
65
66
67TO INSTALL MPW
68==============
69A minimal version of MPW is downloadable from Apple at
70ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Tool_Chest/Core_Mac_OS_Tools/MPW_etc./MPW-GM/MPW/
71
72You only need the file containing the MPW shell (i.e., 'MPW_Shell.sit.hqx').
73
74However, if you wish to start Singular  from within the MPW shell you
75furthermore need the file  'Tools/GetFileName.sit.hqx'.
76
77In cases where the StdCLib is not found (systems before 7.6) you can
78download it from http://developer.apple.com/dev/tools/mpw-tools/ . Put the
79contained system extension StdCLibInit in the system extension folder.
