Topic review - Highest degree term in the Resultant
Author Message
Post subject:  Highest degree term in the Resultant  Reply with quote
I am trying to compute the resultant of two polynomials, say f,gin k[X,Y] wrt X. The computations are turning heavy are not able to finish (giving memory problem, similar to the one mentioned in an earlier post by egilsson).

But I am just interested in the highest degree term (wrt Y) of the resultant and not the entire resultant. Is there any way to modify the routine for "resultant" or to write another routine, so that it will just stop after calculating the highest degree term.

By the way here by the variable "Y", I mean the variables "Y_1,...,Y_r" with some ordering and highest degree term wrt that ordering.

Thanks in advance.

Vinay
